Open Tooth

In order to alleviate your discomfort, your tooth may have been left open for drainage.

The following suggestions assist in maintaining comfort and reducing possible complications:

If your tooth has been left open for drainage, then rinse your mouth as instructed with warm salt water for five (5) minutes every hour (1/2 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm tap water).

Avoid blocking the open tooth with food by cautiously eating on the opposite side of your mouth (even when the tooth becomes comfortable).

Avoid sucking or picking on the tooth and do not “play” with your tooth with your tongue. This may cause pain.

If medication has been prescribed, please take it according to direction.

Please notify this office in the event of any significant swelling, pain, or problems with the prescribed medication(s).
